XSM Demos
From NESTFE Wiki
This page facilitates all logistics and conflicts pertaining to the XSM demos by maintaining the timelines for all groups on the same page. The Deployment Specifics section below should be edited by each group as they decide exactly how their deployment will proceed. For example, if a group is arriving early and needs to use 30 nodes, they should indicate that they are claiming nodes 1-30, and will be reprogramming the 1st flash partition. All other issues and concerns should be noted in the Issues section.

XSM Deployment Overview
Two XSM deployments will take place on at the RFS. Approximately 40 nodes will be deployed by UVA and CMU along the 285 North/South road in the purple area. Photos of the road, the buildings next to it, and the hill/gully on the other side are available at RFS_Area#Photo_Tour.
For the other groups, approximately 100 XSM nodes will be deployed in the lower primary deployment area (blue area) at the Richmond Field Station (as indicated at RFS_Area#Deployment_Areas_and_Facilities). Photos of the grass heights in this area are available at RFS_Area#Photo_Tour. Berkeley will provide an 802.11 network over the entire deployment area; any further auxilliary equipment such as stargates, gateways, laptops, or visual displays must be deployed and maintained by the individual demo groups. Berkeley will also provide the ground truth locations of all nodes, obtained using differential GPS, with average error less than 1m, with 2cm accuracy at best. The nodes will be deployed uniformly in noisy grid pattern with an average of 10-15 meter spacing. The ground truth locations and the height of grass at each node will be provided through a text file linked to from this spot, and the format will be as follows:
Node ID GPS X Pos. GPS Y Pos. Grass Height (in.) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 20748.409901 84.492503 21 39 20748.409901 84.492503 36
The units for X and Y positions are in meters, centered on a fire hydrant that is immediately behind (southeast) of the "shack." The shack is located at the southeast corner of the blue trapezoid in the RFS map above.
Because several groups are using the same nodes, each group should verify for themselves that their program includes the tinyos-1.x/tos/lib/Deluge/DelugeC module (using the Tinyos 1.1.14 CVS tag or later) and that their image can return the node to the Golden Image, which will be in Deluge image slot 0. A small group of five nodes will be available one week before the demo for testing code before it is loaded onto the entire network. All program images must be 64K or smaller to guarantee that all groups have space, and no program should use the external flash.
Deluge 2.0
The Deluge 2.0 bootloader is checked into tinyos-1.x/contrib/exscal/tosboot.

CFLAGS += -DDELUGE_NUM_IMAGES=7 CFLAGS += -DCC1K_DEF_FREQ=434026000 DEFAULT_LOCAL_GROUP=0x0A
The first line reserves slots for 7 Deluge images. The second line sets the radio frequency to 434026000 Hz. The third line sets the Group ID to 0x0A.
4:00PM Onward - Berkeley reclaims XSMs. Fresh batteries installed, 100 nodes deployed and GPS localized.

Team Deployment Overviews
MIT
Project: Simultaneous Localization and Tracking using a Beacon
Testing:
- starting fri morning 9a
- need 64 xsms to use
Needs:
- Network subset of 64 XSM nodes with ~12m spacing
- Wood blocks 4"x4"x4" under each XSM
- For Demo: Data for positions and id's of the 64 XSM subset
- Prior To Submitting for Deluge: ID's for 64 XSM subset
- Power
- Power strips
- Tent
- Chairs
- 42" Plasma screen. What kind of output do we need?
Specific needs for each team.
With so many teams and needs, please list what you are expecting Berkeley to provide & when it will be needed.
We are planning on having two locations set up with tents, a large display, power, water, and desks and chairs will be set up. (Google map indicating exact location to follow) One will be located across from the "blue trailer" in the SE corner of the picture. (lower right hand corner of small blue square) The second location will be at the NW corner, near the road way that we are planning on using. (upper left hand side of small blue square) These will be four easy up canopies, they are 10'X10'. We were planning on a 20X20 square layout, Unless noted. We are also planing to move the mobile ground control station to the NE corner of the field that it is curently located in. These stations will be set up as early as you need, planning on Thursday, morning, the 25th of Aug. We are planning on having seating for up to 40 people at each station unless otherwise noted.
Vanderbilt: Access to 4 easy canopies 10X10, Large display, Power cables and strips, Desk and chairs for 40 people, 4"x4" blocks for XSM(100)
Kestrel: Access to 4 easy canopies 10X10, Large display, Power cables and strips, Desk and chairs for 40 people, 4"x4" blocks for XSM(100)
Illinois: Access to 4 easy canopies 10X10, Large display, Power cables and strips, Desk and chairs for 40 people, 4"x4" blocks for XSM(100)
MIT: Access to 4 easy canopies 10X10, Large display, Power cables and strips, Desk and chairs for 40 people, 4"x4" blocks for XSM(100)

Current Status: Two canopies and power are ready. There are two tables in the canopies but it is said that they will be replaced by other tables.
Needs:
- Two more canopies
- Chairs for 40 people
- Large display
Memo:
- Our network uses the default frequency of ExScal motes and the frequency 434.318MHz.
